ChatGPT Levels Up with Voice, Vision, and Live Interaction
Microsoft's Phi-4 Outshines Giants, Pika 2.0 Uses Your Pictures, & Anthropic's Quiet Release
This week we have some exciting new launches from the industry’s AI giants. From Microsoft and OpenAI to Anthropic, prepare to be thrilled by the new horizons AI is reaching.
This week’s issue entails:
Small Wonder: Microsoft’s Phi-4 Outshines AI Giants
Pika 2.0: Turning AI Video into Your Creative Playground
ChatGPT Levels Up with Voice, Vision, and Live Interaction
Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Haiku: Quietly Fast, Stealthily Powerful
Microsoft’s Phi-4, a 14B parameter model, is proving that size isn’t everything. Despite its compact build, it outperforms massive rivals like GPT-4o and Gemini Pro 1.5 on math and STEM benchmarks, even beating its own teacher, GPT-4o, in complex reasoning tasks. Trained on 400B tokens of synthetic data, Phi-4 combines smart design with efficiency, processing up to 4,000 tokens — twice the capacity of its predecessor.
Phi-4 challenges the “bigger is better” mindset, showing that clever training and architecture can deliver big results. Currently in limited preview on Azure AI Foundry, it’s coming soon to Hugging Face.

OpenAI just rolled out a major upgrade to ChatGPT's Advanced Voice Mode, letting users share live video and screens for real-time AI analysis and conversation. Available to Plus, Pro, and Team subscribers (with Enterprise access coming in January), the feature brings visual understanding to the forefront of ChatGPT's capabilities.
OpenAI is turning ChatGPT into a true multimodal powerhouse, seamlessly blending voice, text, and visuals for smarter interactions. And for a festive touch, users can chat with Santa—a limited-time voice option running through early January.

Anthropic just made its Claude 3.5 Haiku model available to all web and mobile users, expanding beyond its earlier API-only release. Known for speed, coding skills, and a massive 200K context window, Haiku outshines its predecessor but stirred debate over its steep API pricing. Free users get limited access, while Pro subscribers ($20/month) enjoy priority usage.
While Haiku impresses with its performance, Anthropic’s low-key rollout feels muted amid bigger AI announcements this week. The industry may be waiting for Claude 3.5 Opus to make Anthropic a headline contender once again.

OpenAI cofounder Ilya Sutskever declared at NeurIPS that AI has hit ‘peak data,’ meaning current training methods are reaching their limits. He predicts a move toward more autonomous, reasoning-based systems, which will deliver breakthroughs but become less predictable as they evolve.
Why it matters: This marks a turning point for AI development, signaling the end of data abundance and the rise of models driven by reasoning and adaptability—with potentially surprising results.
