Google Maps with Gemini, Global Survey Shows AI Anxiety, & Google's Veo 3.1 Launch
Here’s the latest from this week in AI:
Anthropic Brings Claude Code to the Web
Google Fuses Gemini with Maps, Unlocking Location-Aware AI
Global Survey Shows AI Anxiety Outweighs Optimism
Google’s Veo 3.1 Pushes AI Video Toward Greater Creative Control
Anthropic has launched Claude Code on the web in research preview, giving developers the freedom to code directly from their browsers instead of a terminal. The cloud-based assistant can now handle multiple tasks simultaneously, connect with GitHub repositories, and provide real-time progress tracking, all within isolated workspaces that safeguard data and prevent cross-task access.
Pro and Max users can access Claude Code via the browser or iOS app, assign coding tasks, and automatically receive pull requests once work is done. This move marks a major step toward accessibility and convenience, making AI-driven coding less technical and more intuitive, ideal for both professionals seeking speed and newcomers eager to experiment in a user-friendly environment.

Google has integrated Gemini directly into Maps, giving its AI model real-time access to global location data from over 250 million venues. Developers can now feed Gemini details like business hours, ratings, and venue specifics through API calls and even embed interactive Maps widgets within their apps, combining familiar navigation visuals with AI-driven insights.
The system can automatically detect when geographic context matters, fetching relevant metadata without user prompts. Starting at $25 per thousand location-enhanced prompts, the feature targets enterprise use, strengthening Google’s competitive edge. This fusion of Gemini and Maps marks a new era of location-aware AI applications, blending spatial intelligence with conversational power in ways rivals will find hard to match.

A new Pew Research survey of over 28,000 adults across 25 countries reveals that global unease about AI now surpasses enthusiasm. Half of respondents in nations like the U.S., Italy, Australia, and Greece expressed worry over the technology’s rise, while optimism was strongest in Israel, South Korea, and Sweden. The EU emerged as the most trusted regulator of AI, with 53% confidence, far ahead of the U.S. (37%) and China (27%).
Younger adults under 35 showed greater familiarity and optimism about AI than those over 50, with striking generational gaps in some regions. Overall, the findings underscore that while AI continues to accelerate, public confidence hasn’t kept pace, especially in countries most exposed to its rapid adoption.

Google has unveiled Veo 3.1, its latest AI video generation model, delivering sharper visuals, improved realism, and enhanced tools for filmmakers. The update lets users upload up to three reference images for consistent characters across scenes and define start and end frames for seamless transitions with matching audio. It also introduces scene extension, allowing creators to chain clips into videos up to a minute long.
Both standard and fast versions of Veo 3.1 are rolling out across Google’s ecosystem, including Flow, Vertex AI, and Gemini. While it arrives just after OpenAI’s Sora 2 stole the spotlight, Veo 3.1’s upgrades focus less on spectacle and more on creative precision, offering filmmakers finer control to refine and extend AI-generated footage with professional polish.
