Market Jitters: S&P 500 Dips While Nvidia Shines
The S&P 500 fell 0.2% on Monday, struggling to maintain the strong momentum from May. The Nasdaq gained 0.1%, while the Dow Jones dropped 237 points. A technical issue at the NYSE affected price quotes for several stocks, adding to the day's uncertainty. The U.S. manufacturing sector showed signs of contraction with the ISM index at 48.7, leading to lower Treasury yields and a drop in cyclical stocks. However, Nvidia shares rose 2% after announcing new AI chips, providing a bright spot in the market.
Despite a robust May, with the Nasdaq up 6.9%, markets closed the month slightly below record highs. Wolfe Research predicts increased volatility over the summer, with investors awaiting key economic updates, including private payroll data and the May jobs report.
Crypto Market Watch: Bitcoin Eyes Breakout, Ethereum Faces Correction, Ripple Ends Consolidation
Bitcoin (BTC) is consolidating within a symmetrical triangle pattern, suggesting a potential breakout. The pattern, identified by lower highs and higher lows since May 19, shows no directional bias. A bullish breakout at $67,700 could push BTC to its all-time high of $73,777. Conversely, a drop below $67,700 could lead to an 8% decline to $61,734.
Ethereum (ETH) recently broke above a falling wedge pattern, rallying 21%. Despite this, a bearish block is hindering further gains. Investors might consider buying at key Fibonacci retracement levels of $3,424 and $3,279. A close below $2,864, however, could trigger a 9% drop to $2,600. Ripple (XRP) has been consolidating between $0.571 and $0.467. A breakout above $0.571 could see an 8% rally to $0.621, while a close below $0.467 might result in a 10% decline to $0.419.
