Following extensive negotiations, EU lawmakers have finally reached an agreement on how to regulate artificial intelligence.

While specifics are yet to be finalized, the framework lays down rigid rules against AI use for biometric categorization, untargeted facial recognition, emotion recognition, social scoring, behavior manipulation, and exploitation.

With marked exceptions and tight regulations, the deal is being hailed as a pioneering effort in AI legislation.

However, critics remain skeptical about the sufficiency of safeguards for human rights.

Grok, the brainchild of Musk's xAI startup, has begun playing with X’s high-end U.S. Premium+ subscribers.

The playbook has global ambitions with English-speaking users worldwide warming up to join the league, followed by X's second-largest user base - Japan.

Musk plans to ace linguistic versatility with Grok, targeting fluency in all languages by 2024. Amidst Musk's reputation for overpromising and under-delivering, Grok seems to buck the trend, albeit with minor timeline tweaks.

Google has landed in a spicy hot pot of controversy over its Gemini AI demo. A million views, but the grand huzzah is undercut by allegations that it was, dare we say it, largely faked.

While Gemini supposedly understands and masterfully mixes visuals and language, its marvels, such as narrating an evolving sketch of a duck and tracking a ball in a cup-switching game, now come under scrutiny.

Many feel hornswoggled, as the actual interaction reportedly involved a series of carefully tuned text prompts with still images, contrary to what was shown in the demo. How’s that for a plot twist?

In a harmony of human and machine, Meta has unveiled Audiobox, an AI that clones voices with all the subtleties and symphonics of natural speech.

The tech not only nails your tone, but can also conjure up ambient sounds and sound effects.

Just provide the voice input or a nifty text prompt, and Audiobox will serve you a helping of custom audio.

Yet, there's a footnote, Audiobox currently abides by a strict 'look but don't sell' policy for commercial users and folks in Illinois or Texas.

Inflection AI, in a bold move to rival OpenAI's ChatGPT, has launched its AI chatbot 'Pi' on Android. Co-founded by LinkedIn and DeepMind co-founders, this chatbot aims to offer a more personal and colloquial conversational companion.

Available initially in 35 countries including the U.S, Pi brings voice-supported back-and-forth conversations, letting users speak their mind and get instant answers, tips, or suggestions.

With Android's massive global user base, the move is set to drastically expand Inflection AI's reach.

However, Pi has set itself up to face stiff competition not just from ChatGPT, but also Bard, Claude, and Grok.

Here are 5 trends that will most likely play out in 2024 that you should be paying attention to if you would like to ride the wave:

  • Hollywood for Everyone: This trend indicates that advanced AI tools will enable users to create high-quality video content with ease. These tools will democratize video production, making it accessible and affordable for a wider audience.

  • AI Friends: The rise of AI companions suggests a future where digital personas become integral to social interactions, potentially serving as friends, advisors, or even dating assistants, enhancing digital communication.

  • Personalized Ads: Advertising is expected to become more sophisticated and tailored, using AI to create unique ads for individual viewers, enhancing targeting efficiency but also raising privacy concerns.

  • Pseudonymity: An increase in online pseudonymity reflects a growing preference for maintaining separate, anonymous identities on the internet, allowing for freer expression and interaction.

  • Deepfakes & AI Everything: The proliferation of deepfakes and AI-generated content will challenge the distinction between reality and synthetic media, with implications for both creative expression and misinformation.

How will you or your business capitalize on these trends?
