OpenAI GPT-5 Codex, China's SpikingBrain 1.0, & AI Solves Long-Standing Math Equation

Here’s the latest from this week in AI:

  • OpenAI Introduces GPT-5 Codex

  • China Debuts SpikingBrain 1.0

  • Albania Appoints AI Minister

  • Gauss AI Solves Long-Standing Math Challenge

OpenAI has released GPT-5 Codex, a coding model that adjusts compute power to match task complexity, from quick fixes to hours-long challenges. It outperforms GPT-5 on SWE-bench Verified, with major gains in refactoring tasks (51.3% vs. 33.9%), while cutting token usage by 94% on simple work and doubling reasoning time for complex problems.

The model adds code review, test execution, and dependency checks to catch bugs across entire codebases. Developers also benefit from updated CLI tools, IDE extensions for VS Code and Cursor, and smooth local-to-cloud handoffs. GPT-5 Codex strengthens OpenAI’s position as a serious competitor to Anthropic’s Claude Code in the fast-growing world of agentic coding tools.

Chinese researchers introduced SpikingBrain 1.0, an AI system that mimics human neurons to boost speed while running fully on China’s MetaX chips instead of Nvidia hardware. The model fires neurons selectively like the brain, requiring under 2% of the data used by traditional systems to train 7B and 76B versions that still match performance on language tasks.

In tests, the smaller model processed a 4M-token prompt more than 100 times faster than standard setups and stayed stable for weeks. A free demo called Shunxi is now online, showing China’s ability to build high-performance AI entirely on domestic technology and signaling real competition with Nvidia-powered Western models.

Albania has named an AI system called Diella to its cabinet, making it the first country to give an official minister role to artificial intelligence. Prime Minister Edi Rama introduced Diella as the virtual overseer of all government procurement contracts, with responsibility for evaluating and awarding public tenders.

Diella already assists citizens through Albania’s digital services portal, handling bureaucratic requests via voice commands. Rama argues the AI will reduce corruption by removing bribes and threats from the process, though questions remain about how human oversight will prevent abuse or security risks.

The AI Agent Shopify Brands Trust for Q4

Generic chatbots don’t work in ecommerce. They frustrate shoppers, waste traffic, and fail to drive real revenue.

Zipchat.ai is the AI Sales Agent built for Shopify brands like Police, TropicFeel, and Jackery — designed to sell, Zipchat can also.

  • Answers product questions instantly and recommends upsells

  • Converts hesitant shoppers into buyers before they bounce

  • Recovers abandoned carts automatically across web and WhatsApp

  • Automates support 24/7 at scale, cutting tickets and saving money

From 10,000 visitors/month to millions, Zipchat scales with your store — boosting sales and margins while reducing costs. That’s why fast-growing DTC brands and established enterprises alike trust it to handle their busiest season and fully embrace Agentic Commerce.

Setup takes less than 20 minutes with our success manager. And you’re fully covered with 37 days risk-free (7-day free trial + 30-day money-back guarantee).

Math Inc. unveiled Gauss, an AI system that solved the Strong Prime Number Theorem in just three weeks, a task that had stumped top mathematicians for 18 months. The challenge, set in 2024 by Terence Tao and Alex Kontorovich, marked a major milestone in formalized mathematics.

Gauss worked autonomously for hours at a time, generating 25,000 lines of verified math code with more than 1,000 interconnected proofs and definitions. Math Inc. now plans to scale mathematical code 100 to 1000 times within a year, aiming to create training data for “machine polymaths” and verified superintelligence.

U.S. stocks slipped Tuesday as investors took profits ahead of a closely watched Federal Reserve rate decision. The S&P 500 fell 0.13% to 6606.76 after hitting a record earlier in the day, while the Nasdaq dropped 0.07% to 22,333.96 and the Dow slid 0.27% to 45,757.90. Market leaders Nvidia and Microsoft lost 1.6% and 1.2%, with Alphabet and Palantir also pulling back.

The Fed is widely expected to cut rates by at least a quarter point, its first cut since December, with attention on how many additional cuts could follow this year. Traders will also parse Chair Jerome Powell’s remarks for policy clues as political tensions rise over new Fed appointments. Global trade talks remain a factor, with the U.S. and China reaching a framework deal to keep TikTok operating domestically, lifting Oracle shares 1.5%.
